MEDICAL STUDENT PROGRAM
Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency, in conjunction with the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, provides a Family Medicine clerkship for third- and fourth-year medical students for four to six weeks duration. The rotation provides a breadth of experiences. The majority of time is spent in the Family Practice Center, with additional time in the emergency room and in various community clinics. There is also the opportunity to spend two weeks providing inpatient care. Teaching is done by family physicians on the staff, as well as by volunteer community family physicians. The clerkship has proved to be a very popular experience. The clerkship is not a prerequisite for acceptance into the residency program. It is recommended for any student (no matter what his or her future interests) who would like to have more exposure to family medicine in a community setting.
