The educational program is based on two principles: First, that personal ongoing guidance throughout the residency can help residents achieve their full potential as family physicians; Second, that a diverse faculty with a wide variety of interests and strengths can best help residents achieve their goals.

Graduating residents will be able to:

• Manage most problems presented to their care and provide comprehensive and continuing care to all of their patients
• Work as a member of a group practice, sharing patient responsibility with other members of the health care team
• Apply knowledge, techniques, and insights for optimal patient care in a variety of the settings in which family physicians work
• Recognize personal limitations in knowledge and competence and be committed to remaining students of the art and science of medicine through continuing education
• Reflect on their own personal growth and development as physicians, explore areas of stress and possible impairment, and find sources of support for themselves and their families
• Function within the various styles of health care delivery which are an integral part of the future of medicine
